Liza Ryan - SPILL

Some shots of the recently published catalog that I designed for the Liza Ryan - SPILL show are now up in the Plazm portfolio. It was truly great to collaborate with artist Liza Ryan and Cooley Gallery curator Stephanie Snyder on this project.

View here.

The catalog edition is 500.
We have a few copies for sale in the Plazm store.

McCatering to the Races

McDonald's Corporation has recently launched a couple of websites specifically targeted to African American and Asian American audiences. In the misguided marketing effort category, I'm lovin' this as the winner. Note the catchy site names.

Portland Stock

Portland loves art... and using talk and art as an excuse to do our actual favorite things: eat and drink. So! Portland Stock steps in with a lovely idea.

Artists send in proposals for a "grant,"which is on display at the dinner. Diners vote on which proposal ought to be funded --- out of the money they paid to get in the door and get fed. That artist presents their work at the next Portland Stock dinner, the following month.

Other charming options for food, drink, and moderated discussion about creativity and art in this town: New Oregon Interview Series (next event this Wednesday) hosted by Nora Robertson, the back room with host/curators Matthew Stadler and Stephanie Snyder, and Bright Lights, hosted by Randy Gragg.

MIT Persona Project

Personas is a component of the Metropath(ologies) exhibit, currently on display at the MIT Museum by the Sociable Media Group from the MIT Media Lab. Personas sees how the internet sees "you"—or at least your name. How important are digital histories? And how does that impact the individual?

Back in the Day, Plazm posters 1991-94

1
Plazm magazine was founded in 1991 as an artist resource. In the early years we held live music events with bands like Crackerbash, Dead Moon, Hazel, Pond, and The Spinanes, raising funds for our fledgling magazine, and shipped magazines from a beat-up VW van. Here's a link to some of the old posters. Thank you to all the great artists that gave so much energy and contributed to these events.

The Creepiness: Staffmaker

You can now pay to use this web application to create your own representative company avatar/online personality to talk to folks in Japanese while visiting your website. Bizarro- especially the Actionscript head wobble and weird facial distortion when they talk.

Thanks to Yuki Kameguchi for the tip!

Ladies and Gentleman, The Fabulous Stains

I recently watched this great movie again. And it is a great movie. From the early 80s featuring a young Laura Dern and Diane Lane and various punk rock notables such as Fee Waybill of the Tubes, Steve Jones and Paul Cook of the Sex Pistols. Perhaps where the band name "The White Stripes" originates? Just hypothisizing. This is showing on the big screen outdoors tonight, sponsored by our friends at the Rock 'n' Roll Camp for Girls.... Check it out.

Can I just say Kay Rosen is awesome?

No props in type circles (that I have seen) until this feature in iDN.
I am humbled to have work in the same issue.

BudSock

budsock

BudSock is a nifty new anti-tangle device for mobile devices' cord systems. I worked with company founder Jeffrey Wescott to develop the product's identity and packaging, as well as beef up their web presence as of late. It's a nifty sleeve system backed up by a 110% money-back guarantee.
