Doug Fir Fiction Award Deadline 9/8

Every Story Begins Somewhere


At The Bear Deluxe Magazine, the Pacific Northwest environmental arts publication, many short fiction stories and their authors find first recognition through the Doug Fir Fiction Award. Now in its third year, this annual contest celebrates writing related to the natural world, sense of place or environmental issues.


Postmark deadline: September 8, 2009

Prize: $1,000 and national publication


This year's judge is Plazm editor, author of The Half Life and Livability, Jon Raymond


Word limit: 5,000

$15 reading fee

ACLU Cleaning Up After Bush


Sure W is gone, but he left behind quite a mess and there is some major cleaning up to do. The ACLU has extended the deadline for submissions to their "Actions For Restoring America" poster call for entries until Sunday March 1, 2009.
